Made With Love

My first real client for a custom made gown was my very own baby sister. How surprising! :) Sarah and I had talked about me making her prom dress since the day I started at Marist as a Fashion Design major. However, It wasn't until part way through this year that I knew I would be capable of taking on the task. Sarah and I designed the dress together, she told me what she wanted, and I brought in my own ideas of what would be flattering. One of the toughest decisions was the color. Sarah told me that she wanted a grey or yellow dress, which I wasnt thrilled about. Grey is so blah, and we couldn't find a yellow that suited her coloring. So when I found that beautiful green charmeuse fabric I knew it was perfect.

Many hours of toiling went into this gown, I made the pattern from draping on a dressform and transferring it to pattern paper. I made 2 sample dresses before the final gown, and we had to make several changes to the final dress before it fit satisfactorily. (is that a word?) But in the end, all the hard work and tweaking paid off. Everyone was very impressed and Sarah was happy as was her boyfriend Kyle, who she was most worried about impressing. He said she looked "Extra Hot." :)

Rachiepoo!! I love the dress! I can't wait to see it in person. You are just too talented for words :) Just think...when I get married, you will design a beautiful little white dress for me. Then I can tell all my guests that my Rachie made it for me! hehe. You're the best!
